At Torpedo Golf, we decided that in order to advance the science and art of putting, we needed to craft our “instruments” out of the finest materials, guided by theories of harmony, balance and symmetry, and in doing so, work out which geometries, materials and ratios would give golfers the greatest chance of:
1. aiming properly,
2. controlling for distance,
3. reducing putt skid length, and
4. improving vibrational and acoustic feedback.
By seamlessly combining these elements in a coherent and unified putting system, golfers indeed really did, and do, “Sink More Putts!”
In homage to the great violin makers of old, we will fittingly be naming our putter designs after them. I personally have played Stradivari, Guarneri, Amati, Maggini, Landolfi, Steiner and other great instruments, and I can tell you that with the exception of a handful of very talented modern makers (one of whom I briefly studied with) even expensive modern instruments cannot begin to capture the timbre of the greats.
The difference in feel between a Torpedo Putter and conventional putters, is as dramatic as the difference between an old master and a cheap dime store violin.
